Getting “Under The Hood” Of Online Marketing

The world of online marketing is interesting, to say the least. Where else can you rub elbows with some of the best marketers in the world—without ever leaving your house? And who else but an online marketer would come up with things like “squeeze pages”, “pop-overs” and “e-classes”?

Not only is this a fascinating industry, it’s also an ever-changing one. For example, the use of online multimedia was practically non-existent just a couple of years ago. The same is true with “One Time Offers” and online Giveaway sites.

With the continuing changes and advances in marketing products and techniques, keeping up with it could become a nightmare, whether you’re a seasoned marketer or brand new to the industry. Almost daily, a new marketing strategy or product is launched. So how in the world can anyone, whether experienced or newbie, keep abreast of the maddening pace of change and ever-increasing volume of marketing information?

Well, believe it or not, it’s easier than you might think to get a look “under the hood” of Online Marketing. That’s because, unlike many other industries, the “stuff” of the industry itself is required to make the industry work; it takes online marketing to power the internet marketing industry.

One of the best ways to get a good look at Internet marketing in action and increase your marketing knowledge is to simply take the time to observe marketing in action. It won’t cost you a dime, but the education you’ll get from it could prove to be invaluable. Let’s look at two common examples.

First of all, there’s the sign-up process for a newsletter or free gift. Choose one offered by a well-known marketer on a topic that interests you. Don’t look at what happens with the eyes of a subscriber; follow it like a marketer—or better yet, like a wide-eyed child in a candy store. With just a little effort, you’ll be surprised at the marketing and persuasion techniques being used.

Another suggestion is to take the time to sign-up for at least one of the better-known free giveaway sites. Not only will you be able to get some excellent (and sometimes resalable) products, but you’ll also get a first-hand look at a variety of marketing strategies in use. One marketer might include an upsell for resale rights; another might include branding rights. And still another might offer a trial or discount membership.

If you’re really serious about getting an insider’s view of online marketing, then take advantage of the opportunity to be a Joint Venture partner in the launch of a major new product or giveaway site. This will give you a front row seat as you take part in the pre-launch activities and are shown tools and strategies that most people on the outside many times have no clue about.

Up to this point, we’ve only been discussing strategies and marketing techniques. But there’s so much more you can learn, like website design ideas and suggestions, affiliate marketing tools, and of course, there’s also e-mail message creation and web copy writing too. And all this is available for free!

Now just imagine how much more you could learn if you decided to invest in a product about a specific aspect of Internet Marketing . . .
